Uganda. Unlike Anywhere Else.

Winston Churchill called it the Pearl of Africa and he was right. More than half of all mountain gorillas on earth. 1,063 bird species. The Source of the Nile. Tree-climbing lions. Ancient rainforests and snow-capped peaks all in a country smaller than Germany.

Uganda sits exactly on the equator, between the Great Rift Valley lakes to the west and the volcanic ranges to the east. In an area slightly smaller than Germany, it packs a diversity of ecosystems, animals and landscapes that has no equal on the African continent. This is not a destination for everyone. It is the right destination for those who want more than a safari.

Uganda vereint Berggorillas, Schimpansen, Baumlöwen, den Nil und 1.063 Vogelarten in einem einzigen Land — kleiner als Deutschland, aber reicher als fast jedes andere Reiseziel in Afrika.

Half the world's mountain gorillas
Die Hälfte aller Berggorillas der Welt
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga are home to over half of all remaining mountain gorillas on earth. A gorilla permit in Uganda costs $800 — in Rwanda the same experience costs $1,500. That difference is one good reason. The gorillas themselves are another.

Gorillas and chimps — in one trip
Gorillas und Schimpansen — in einer Reise
Uganda is the only country in the world where you can track both gorillas and chimpanzees in a single itinerary. Kibale Forest is the Primate Capital of the World — 13 primate species, over 1,500 chimpanzees, all in one forest.

The Big Seven — in one country
Die Big Seven — in einem Land
Lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffalo, gorillas and chimpanzees. Uganda is one of the only countries on earth where you can encounter all seven on a single journey — from Murchison Falls in the north to Bwindi in the south.
🌿
Almost no crowds
Kaum Touristen. Ganz viel Natur.
While the Masai Mara and Serengeti see vehicles competing for the same sightings, Uganda's parks remain refreshingly empty. Game drives where you see no other vehicle. Gorilla treks that feel entirely your own. That is not a promise — it is simply the reality.

Getting to Know Uganda · Das Land kennenlernen

Uganda is more than
a safari.

Uganda ist mehr als eine Safari.

It is a country that surprises you. Deeper, greener, wilder and quieter than most travellers expect. Here are the stories that make Uganda what it is.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Bwindi Undurchdringlicher Wald

The eye of
a silverback.

Das Auge eines Silberrückens.

You are standing in dense rainforest. The air is thick and warm. Then you hear a rustle — and suddenly he is there. A silverback, calm and enormous, three metres away. He looks at you. You look at him. In that moment you understand why people change their lives to come back here.

Bwindi is one of Africa's oldest rainforests — it survived the last ice age. Today it is home to the world's largest community of mountain gorillas. Your permit gives you one hour with a habituated family. It is never enough.

Murchison Falls & The Source of the Nile Murchison Falls & Quelle des Nils

The most powerful
waterfall on earth.

Der mächtigste Wasserfall der Erde.

The entire force of the Nile is compressed through a single seven-metre gap — creating a roar and a mist you feel before you see. Murchison Falls is not a pretty waterfall. It is a force of nature.

Shortly after, in Jinja, you stand at the exact point where the world's longest river begins its 6,650 km journey to the Mediterranean. A boat cruise along the Nile — with hippos, crocodiles and elephants on the banks — is one of the most remarkable experiences in all of Uganda.

Kidepo Valley National Park Kidepo-Tal-Nationalpark

Africa's
hidden gem.

Afrikas verborgenes Juwel.

National Geographic has called it one of Africa's most beautiful national parks. Travel magazines have listed it. Almost no one has been there.

Kidepo sits in Uganda's far northeast, on the border with South Sudan and Kenya. The journey is long — and that is exactly the point. Those who arrive find 77 mammal species and 475 bird species almost entirely to themselves. Buffalo herds in the thousands. Cheetahs. Rothschild's giraffe. And not another vehicle in sight.

Culture & People · 56 Peoples Kultur & Menschen · 56 Völker

56 peoples.
One warmth.

56 Völker. Eine Herzlichkeit.

Uganda is home to 56 recognised peoples — from the Baganda of the centre to the Karamojong warriors of the north and the Batwa, original guardians of the Bwindi forest. Each has its own language, ceremonies and history.

The Kasubi Royal Tombs in Kampala are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Namugongo Martyrs Shrine is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Africa. And above all of this stands one quality that surprises every visitor to Uganda: the genuine warmth of its people. It is not a tourist gesture — it is real.

Birding & Nature · Vogelparadies & Natur

More bird species
than all of Europe.

Mehr Vogelarten als ganz Europa.

Uganda is considered one of the world's premier birding destinations. With 1,063 documented species in an area smaller than Germany, the density is simply unmatched. But even non-birders are stopped in their tracks by what flies, stands and moves through this country.

Uganda gilt unter Vogelkundlern weltweit als eines der bedeutendsten Ziele — 1.063 Arten auf kleinstem Raum.
